Title: Boards up and running!
Post by: SolarT on December 28, 2009, 01:46:41 AM
Welcome to the new SVT Forum. A little bare at the moment, but functional.
A shame they had to be down for so very long, but at least I was able to get some new ones back up and running. And trust me, it wasn't easy, lol.

That said, allow me to introduce myself. SolarTails at your service, but most call me SolarT or Solar for short. I can be contacted via PM on the forum. I'll be working alongside SA Tails to get SVT restored to it's former glory.

I've been a fan of Sonic for years, and plan to be for many more. Recent Sonic games have been a large dissapointment to me, so I mostly focus on Sonic up to around Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.

Let me (re?)introduce myself. I'm SA Tails and I was a founding member of SVT.

Started way back in March of 1999 by Jason "Sonic Adventurer" Torres, SonicVerse Team began as a sub-section of Sonic Adventurer's Lair. Since then, even when Jason stepped down as head admin, SVT has grown and has been host to such projects as Ian Flynn's Other M, Marie Lu's (unfortunately short lived) Sonic Epilogue and Darkspeeds' Sonic Adventure 2 and Tails Away comics. We prided ourselves on providing excellent comics based on the Blue Blur and his friends.

Unfortunately, the Sonic franchise and the fandom as a whole have changed as the older fans have moved on. Quality of the games in the minds of many have deteriorated past the point of saving. Many older fans have become disillusioned by the so-called "modern" games and have become jaded and cynical. This is one reason why this website has lost its way and fallen into disrepair. Many misfortunes regarding people maintaining the site are another huge reason.

Another problem was hosting. SVT has jumped a LOT of times, from server to server. This site has gone down many times as a consequence. Reasons for this run the gamut from lack of features and outgrowing our host, to our host being hacked and our host having to shut down for financial reasons.

This is where my friend Solar and I come in. I have recruited him to help me with getting this place back into shape and updating again with new content! I hope to make this site great once again.

Through all this downtime, we've lost a lot of traffic. We will do our best to reignite the spark that SVT once had. Please wish us luck.

I'd like to help re-spark SVT, it's what got me drawing as successfully as I do now. I was quite disappointed just today to log into the art section to find no one had even uploaded anything since November, quite a shock! I remember back when it was in full bloom, you had people posting every few hours...
It's a shame to see it so empty.

Let me introduce myself. I'm loyal member of SVT, one of the hundreds of thousands of souls who would visit the website almost weekly-- maybe even daily-- to check up on the Art and Fanfiction sections.

I'm the author of "The World According to SVT", both the original and the sequel. I was once known as the vicious "Flare", among other names through my fanfiction phases (the most prominent being Ace Fujiwara and Kazuki Fujiwara). I've been through craploads of trouble bashing someone's FC, like I would care now. and loads of criticism, but I've made it to Demi-Stardom, coming from just a young child with a liking for writing to an accomplished fanfiction writer in the last two years...

I am...

Gale Fox Quezzie.

But, enough about myself. SVT for me was my savior. It helped me through my socially awkward-ness (which I still have, but I don't mind as much). But, unfortunately, as SA Tails said, the older fans have began to become Cynical and Jaded towards the new games, as well as Sega in general. (Shut up, the new Sonic games were fine. I found the Werehog as a trivial addition, but was a great addition nonetheless. Sonic '06, it was horrible purely because it was a Half-Finished game... literally. Sonic Heroes was near-flawless to me, even though it never did quite strike my fancy.) Although, 50 bucks former Sonic fans are piling up for Bayonetta. All jokes aside, I'd like to respark SVT, as I too have been through my own internet "Demise and Rise". Thus, I will work with what I have to ensure SVT will be the best Sonic website for years to come.

-GFQ

And yes, I'll be styling all my posts like that, so get ready, unless it's against the rules for me to do so.

Yeah I'm back too. =p

For those coming to the board knew and have no idea who I am, my name is Ron Prower former president of SVT for quite some time, since then I've moved on and am now just the CFO of the place paying the bills. SA_Tails and SolarT are now in chage of the website and will hopefully get things back up and running.

I'll still be around the forum every so often to help out and post something hopefully meaningful.

Oh and SA_Tails if you're wondering how I got the gold stars already, database access sure helps. XD

See ya round!

Now this site is run completely by guys with (more or less) fox avatars. We're doomed. =P

I defy the latter statement. Otherwise, heck yeah, we're screwed more than a driver.

*Raises hand* I have a question.

Not to pester any one here, but, If it's okay, I would like to know if and when the RP section is going to be back up?

I mean, if that's okay to ask a question like that, I mean, I know your busy with rebuilding this place. I don't want to be a pain in the bunghole, it's just, I.....can't help it, I like to RP, especially here. This was actually the very first site that I actually RP'ed on. To tell you the honest truth that is.

So, if it's not too much trouble, I would like to know if and when the RP section is going to be up and running again, please and thank you.

I'll discuss it with Tails when I see him later on. He knew the boards better than I did, so an RP section never actually crossed my mind when I rebuilt them, lol

I've missed this place so much. I was here under a different user name joined back in 2005. I'm not sure there's much I can do to help get this place back up and running, but if there's anything I can really do, let me know.

*blinkblink*

Are there any other females here?

I don't know, I never checked. BUT, besides the point, I noted a few people on DA, and hopefully, with a little luck. We'll be getting a few people coming back here sooner or later. Hopefully.

This is Kyra, signing in.
I'm here. :o

And I even joined with my original username. Though to be honest, I don't remember if there was an underscore in it or not. But this is not the point.
The point is I'm here, and I'll do what I can to help liven this place up a bit. :D

This is UltraSonic signing on for the first time in well over a year.  Ron should recognize me, Kyra should recognize me; Gale Fox and SA Tails might, and that's about it I think.

For those who remember I was pretty angsty way back in my teen days, which passed over two years ago, the teen angst may have died off but the sense of adventure remains.  Any questions and inquiries can be of course directed to my PM box as always.  And should SVT have the need I am Security+ Certified.

I seem to remember this board having a child board designed specifically for the more sensitive topics (So designed, so that they could be easily monitored if they all stayed in one place)  Albeit it's probably useless for the present time given the lack of persons around, I'm just mentioning it.  (Crystal Plains [one of the affiliates of SVT] is so unpopulated that controversial subjects don't get enough fuel to even think about getting out of hand)

Now I must be off.

Alright! So, nice to see the board up and running again, and thank you so much to SA Tails for posting on Bumbleking and letting me know this place had come back from the dead  ;D

Just a quick question though, will you be adding new comics to the list of sonic fan comics any time soon? and also, there are a few comics you already have up that have since grown by multiple more issues (like Evan Stanley's "Ghosts of the Future") will you be updating those comics to include all the new material?
Title: Re: Boards up and running!
Post by: SolarT on July 16, 2012, 03:51:34 PM
We would love to add more comics. So if anyone has one of thier own they'd like posted, let us know. As for existing ones, we have to get in touch with the artists, and make sure it's alright to post more of their work up, not to mention let them know "Hey, we're still alive and have half your comic!" hehe
Title: Re: Boards up and running!
Post by: TheMobian on July 16, 2012, 06:19:59 PM
Cool!
So in theory, If I had a sonic fan comic I could just PM you about it, link you to the comic itself, and it could be added to the comic archive? thats pretty sweet.
But are there any rules for content that must be followed? Such as comics with swearing or things like that?

I'm rewriting the submission rules, but you can look at the current on this page (http://www.sonicverseteam.net/forms/hosting.html). The form doesn't work, but rules are there. As for GotF, I plan to ask Evan if she could send me the newer stuff or if I can just pillage her DA for the pages.

Very sorry for double posting, though I think you'll all understand that its hard not to do when there are so few people active on a forum.
Anyways, I've got a question. What are your rules on necroposting? I notice that most of the topics in this forum are old and outdated, but there are still a few that could be brought back to life for the sake of some much needed conversation. Can anyone give me there thoughts on this?
Title: Re: Boards up and running!
Post by: Zonic Mirage on July 23, 2012, 01:59:19 PM
My thinking is necro-posting would be annoying if this place were actually active. Alas, it's really dead. So, I'd say go for it.

Figuring out upgrading our hosting plan. It'd give us the ability to do a one-click install of a Word Press, among other goodies. However it would mean giving up free hosting for SVT's domain. I'm probably going to transfer the domain to a domain provider I use so Solar doesn't have to worry about it.

So this means that once you upgrade, you have to pay for hosting? harsh.
Also, will installing Word Press change the entire layout of the forum to a Word Press style forum? I've seen it happen before on other forums, and I've kinda gotten used to the layout of this one.

I use Word Press on another forum I help out on. When we switched over from whatever program we were using before to using Word Press it automatically changed much of the layout of the site. Needless to say a lot of reorganizing needed to be done :-\

The current hosting plan offers two free domains, but upgrading would ironically downgrade that to one. I'd be fine with taking SVT's domain over and transferring it on my own host to help Solar out, because money is tight for him. Otherwise, the hosting plan would cost the same as it does now, but with extra goodies like one-click installing WP. As for the forum, we wouldn't do anything to it apart from move it up to the main domain. It would be something like community.theirregulars.net. As for layout, I want to make a new one to go with the one I make for the main site anyway. ¦D

We'd have to reorganize everything and put it all into WP (it's with any content management system, really). Solar fixed everything up from the server-side so we don't have as much crud to move around. I plan to make a new layout through Word Press.

Quick question, would the Word Press layout take away the 20,000 character limit? I'm not sure if I've been to a forum that already uses it. (I think this is the only forum I'm at actually.)

Just a quick question.
Will you be completely changing the layout of the website itself? If so, what are some of the things you plan on changing?
I'm really just curious, there haven't been a ton of updates in a while, and I'm interested on how the website is going to be altered.

I'm really sorry, been busy with things. Real Life™ kind of killed momentum. (´・ω・`;) Well, it's going to more or less share the kind of layout features Sonic Stadium has. It will use Twitter and Facebook for social networking and an IRC channel for chat.

Need to take a screencap once I add some actual graphics apart from backgrounds.

I'm definitely looking forward to some Screencaps, but take your time regardless. You don't wan't to work yourself to hard.
